A serious question for "equal pay" advocates ... those who believe the law should stipulate that men and women doing "exactly the same work" should receive "exactly the same pay".
Let's assume, for a moment, two workers who work at Acme Widget Factory, Jan and Stevie. Jan and Stevie do the same job, with the same job title. They have been working for the same amount of time, and have precisely the same skill levels in their job. They both work equally hard and are equally productive. They both work precisely the same number of hours each week.
The only difference between them is this: Jan will only work 9 to 5, Monday to Friday. Those hours, no others. Stevie will work any hours, any day of the week.
My question: should Stevie and Jan both receive exactly the same wages?
